Mickey Mantle

 Mickey Mantle is my children's 2nd cousin twice removed.  He was my mother's 2nd cousin.

Wikipedia says he lived from 1931-1995.  He spent his entire career with the New York Yankees.  He was the Most Valuable Player 3 times.  He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974.  He was the  only player to ever hit 150 home runs from each side of the plate.  He was an all star in 16 of the 20 games he played in.  He won the Gold Glove.  He was in 12 world series, won 7 championships, holds world series records for 18 home runs, 40 RBI's and 26 extra base hits.  42 runs, 43 walks, 123 total bases.  Highest World series on base and slugging percentages.  

Unfortunately, his marriage failed due to alcoholism and infidelity.  They didn't divorce.  He had 4 sons, 3 of them and his wife battled alcoholism.  1 son died of it.  Mickey had liver cancer from alcohol abuse.

I hadn't heard before that he'd been sexually abused by his 1/2 sister, her friends and a teacher.
